Built in 1935, still owned by the town

Ninety years on the front nine.

Pierz Golf Course and Campground is owned and operated by the City of Pierz. The front nine was completed in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration, and it has been maintained ever since by the town that built it. That is ninety years of continuous operation on the same ground.

A municipal course, and proud of it

This is not a private club dressed up as public. It is a city owned facility, priced like one and open to anyone who wants to play. Reviewer Gary G. put it plainly: I have no affiliation with this municipal golf course, I just really enjoy playing it. Being municipal is the whole point, not something to apologize for. It is why nine holes on a weekday runs $20 walking, why a student membership is $325, and why seniors over 62 and military take $2 off any rate.

The back nine took longer than planned, and that is fine

A second nine was long promised. Local coverage in October 2023 reported that the new nine had been rescheduled to open in 2025. It did, in July of that year, and hometown press covered the opening. It is fair to say the expansion ran later than first hoped. It is also fair to say it finally happened, and that the course has been a true eighteen holes for the first time in its ninety year history since that summer. The new nine is younger and it still looks it in places. The front nine, cut in 1935, is as good as it has ever been.

A park, a river, and a trail

Everything sits inside Pierz Park, in Morrison County, on a river with a dam and a swim area that generations of local families have grown up on. A footbridge crosses the water between the course and the campground, so a camper can walk from a tent to the first tee in about a minute. The Soo Line Trail runs close enough that campers with an ATV can get straight onto it, and Pierz Fish Lake is nearby. Deer wander the fairways early and late in the day, which is not something most courses can offer.

Working here

The course and campground are staffed through the City of Pierz. Applications are available at Pierz City Hall or at www.pierzmn.org. You can mail an application to Pierz City Hall, PO Box 367, Pierz, MN 56364, or drop one off in person at 101 Main St S, Pierz, MN 56364.

What people say after a round or a weekend.

Great course that is lots of fun to play. Scenery is gorgeous; ponds, tall pines, a creek...just a beautiful golf course. Plus swimming, a beach, picnic areas and a nice campground. On my bucket list again!

This was my initial experience playing golf at this course. While there were no sand traps, the undulation of the terrain provided an enjoyable challenge. I anticipate returning in the future.

18 holes of fun. The front 9 is beautiful. The new back 9 is kind of bare at this point.

I truly enjoy this unique, beautiful and adequately challenging golf course for a semi-novice hacker. Walking the holes is just the right amount of exercise a individual needs to endure on a somewhat hilly round. Your legs feel like they got a workout. Staff are always nice, fair, and helpful. Did I mention the food, excellent hamburger basket.
